"Unfinished Symmetry" marks Redshape's third release on his imprint Present. The masked producer's signature deep space take on Detroit techno is at its most free-form and organic on this 12". The title track sees a thick and warm bassline pound, ethereal synths descend, and acidity seep in to welcome earthy, lively percussion. Things gather speed and spiral apart to make room for a zealous acid melody that comes to define the track, picking up analogue harmonies and metallic ricochets along the way as it moves forward freely but with determination, like some unfazed optimism about what the world of tomorrow holds.

By contrast, the B-Side is moodier, wistful, yet propulsive. "Black Dust" is all nimble percussion, resolute bass and pared-down deep space synths that beam away, coil up and unfold to fill and propel this track. It's endless cruising through some long red-lit tunnel years from now while mulling over all the things that happened to you, back when the world was a little slower.

A truly remarkable album! I'd like to add that this is one of very few albums that I think truly sound better on vinyl, as it only enhances the intended experience. Every little bit seeps with atmosphere, like watching a dystopian, heavily grainy, space movie with ships surveying distant planets. That goes for the artwork as well, to which I'm sure everyone can agree, is the perfect marriage of both sound and visualization. Here's to hoping there'll be a 2846! Trisska
